Homework

➤ Take a break! (Or finish your homework!)

Many people haven’t yet uploaded the beginnings of their papers and their research notes. If you haven’t done it yet, please complete this assignment. (See Day 8.) If you’ve already done this, there’s nothing more for you to do at the moment, except wait for my feedback — I’ll let you know when it’s ready.

➤ Speakers: Pick an article you like and tell us why it’s good

Speakers: Joey and Tianxuan

From among the articles from Sixth Tone or Aeon that you and your classmates shared in the “Research Notes” folder, please choose an article you particularly like, an article that has qualities you hope to strive for in your own writing. (Make sure it is an article that either makes an argument for why we should care about a problem, or makes an argument for how a problem should be solved, or both.)

Next class, please summarize the argument briefly, and tell us why you think this is a good article — what exactly are the qualities that make it “good,” and why do you want your own writing to have these qualities?

➤ Everybody else: Read articles the speakers shared

Please read the following two articles on Aeon magazine:

As you read, ask yourself: Do I want to write like this? What qualities does this writing have that I want in my own writing? What qualities does this writing have that I don’t want in my own writing?
